Pudding for the New Year! Slippery Nipple pudding shots!

Oh yum yum and so decedent!  I made these shots for my sisters bacholorette party and they are rich, but so yummy and they go down a little too smooth. The are quick and easy, and I served them with ice cream sample spoons.   Also made the Mudslide shots in the past, good but way to rich for my taste.  GASP!  I'm not really a chocolate fan.

Onion Ring Dip may be a winner!

Onion ring dip

In preparation for New Years Eve I mixed up the dry ingredients and the sauces for onion rings, and pickles.  As the original chef states the sauce hasn't had time to get "married" yet, but upon first taste it reminded me of 17street BBQ onion straw sauce DELISH!!!!  Much more to my liking than the comeback sauce made last week.

What's for dinner.

Crab Manicotti

Husband gave it a thumbs up.  Maybe it's the curse of the chef working so hard they never enjoy their creations, but I thought it needed more kick.  Found that I could only stuff 7 noodles, and I felt they could have used more stuffing at that, husband said fill was perfect.  9X9 pan was too small, but 9X13 was too large.  Sauce ran off of top on noodles into side and I needed to spoon sauce on top mid bake to keep from drying out.

Mozzerella Sticks

I succumb to the cooking gods on this one.  My husband deemed the dip too bland, I thought it tasted like a thin, bitter dill dip with too much lemon.  The first stick breaded nicely, but after that the panko was so caked with egg that it was hard to bread the other sticks.  I think I've watched hells kitchen too many times I can pick out the individual tastes now.  I've decided that I don't like the taste of Italian Seasoning and this breading was heavy on this flavor.  Perhaps if there had been a baking option to this recipe I would have liked it, but frying it did not work well.  The recipe calls for 5 minutes at 350 I had the sticks in barely 2 minutes at 300 and they began to burn evaporating the cheese inside.  I like to fry a couple of things in a week before I throw out the oil to avoid waste, but after making these the oil is unusable.  The breading broke off and burnt ruining the oil for any other cooking.

Folks these eggs have no yolks!

My husband LOVES deviled eggs and I am not a fan of hard boiled egg so I decided to try this recipe for Christmas.  We will see how the family likes them.  While my husband noshes on classic deviled eggs, us ladies will be having the yolkless variety.  Upon making them I found them to be very runny, don't know if more cottage cheese or less time in the food processor would have helped.  We will see if they set up in the fridge.  If I keep cooking this much I'm going to have to invest in a better and larger food processor.  I used really fresh green onions and they are a bit on the strong side.  Added homemade ranch which is generally thicker in lieu of the bottled kind like the recipe calls for.  I'll let you know what the fam thinks!

A sink full of dirty dishes while making Christmas Wishes!

My husband Loves blooming onions we will see if he and the family like this twist on one.  So far looks yummy.  Sliced the bread and stuffed in the cheese and prepared the onions, poppy's, and butter so all I have to do is pour it over the bread and bake on Christmas Day!

Bacon Cheese Dip

This dip is chilling in the fridge letting the flavors mingle.  It didn't turn out as thick as I anticipated.  I had planned on serving it on Keebler Toasteds but I think perhaps Ruffles would be a good combination with it! Even though it calls for only a tablespoon of mayo I was running low and had to use fat free.  While I know fat free is better for you I think it and miracle whip often ruin foods with their bitter taste.  It's probably in my head but upon first taste taste I can really taste the fat free mayo.

Onion Dip
This dip is also chilling in the fridge to mingle the flavors.  It was simple to make and I used olive oil mayo instead of the Fat Free hopefully that will take some of the bitter flavor away.  I used the food processor to mince the onions and minced them a little too fine.  They got a little watery and browned a little faster than specified in the recipe.  Don't try to use anything higher than medium low to cook the onions will burn instead of caramelize.  This dip would be great with Ruffles.

Well I'll let you know how all the recipes go over with the family!  You know how holidays are too much food and too many meals to go to!

Come back Sauce

Yet another Pinterest find is the Come Back Sauce.  My husband love the spicy sauce they use for onion rings at many restaurants and Burger King in particular.  I'm hoping this sauce fits the bill, so the next time I forget to beg the cashier for lots and lots of extra sauces I can just pull out some from my own stash!  The chef says to let the items get acquainted for a day before they "get married" so the sauce is ready and in the fridge "chilling out".  The chef say's she uses this sauce on everything.

My attempt to make Chicago Style Pizza for my Chicago boy

Tonight I made a second attempt at creating an UNO deep dish pizza for my Chicago boy. http://www.unos.com/about/press/2009/0109_1.html This particular recipe takes about 3 hours to make with all the prep work and cooling times.   Pizza Huts person pan pizza that came with the BOOK IT program was about as deep dish as this girl ever got growing up.  Therefore, I am clueless on how to perfect this pizza.  Attempt one was a couple of months ago.  We used one 9 inch cake pan, and the crust was WAY to thick but ingredients were cooked to perfection.  Tonight's attempt split the dough among two 9 inch cake pans.  Now the outer crust burnt and the cheese did not melt.  Maybe attempt #3 will go better.  Perhaps I should have cooked the pizza's one at a time, or perhaps our oven temp is off (I'm really leaning towards this one since the fire alarm goes off every time the oven goes above 350 with or without food!!).  I'm really leaning towards find a new recipe that uses cornmeal since my introduction into "Chicago style" pizza was at Lou Mantis and now Talayna's on Baliviere near the history museum in St. Louis (there are 3 this is THE ONE to go to!!!)  which both have a cornbread like taste to me and are generally better the next day.   I shall persevere until the ultimate recipe is found!  Or............I could just call Talayna's http://order.letsorderonline.com/display/menu/talaynasdebaliviere  since their croutons and house salad dressing is TOO DIE FOR!!!!

Todays cooking wrap up! What to make for Christmas?

What I've learned today.....

1. When making rollo pretzel treats they say use half a pecan for a reason. You have to push the melted chocolate down and pieces while more pleasing to eat will cause you to have to daintily sprinkle and burn your finger when you go to push. Also, Reeses cup minitures don't work. Peanut Butter does not melt at the same rate as chocolate and doesn't "push down".

Lesson #2 This salad is much better COLD and watch how much lemon you get in it. I used bottled lemon juice instead of an actual lemon and it was too strong.

Lesson #3 don't buy cheap canned chicken. Avacado doesn't have a strong taste to mask the cheapness like relish and egg in a standard chicken salad does. Needed alot more avacado also, again watch the lime juice portions. Needs alot of pepper also.

Lesson #4- Yummy Yummy Yummy and lo cal (I hope!). Had this recipe before from someone and lost it. I used a lot of Cilantro and black Pepper (more than asked for), and cheated and used rotel. Made quit a bit really does fill a Quart mason Jar+.

Toot Toot for TuTu's!

My first attempt ever at making a Tutu.  I apparently thought my niece was a little taller than she is :-)  She definitely will be able to play princess in this one,  it will be like having a full ballgown on.  Hope she loves her tiara too!!!  May have to make her one in Snow White colors next.

Quack quack waddle waddle

Oh my! Do I feel like a duck!  In 5 years of craft show's I've never had it rain on me, now this year I've had two torrential  downpours and a lite sprinkle.  After the Kirkwood Greentree festival and the 6 inches of water in my tent I thought my rainy days were over.  No so.......I hope no one had a you tube ready cam at the Benton show.  My mother and I climbing on the roof of my car trying to zip tie and bungee cord a giant wooden rotating display rack good enough for a 2 hour car ride in a monsoon was a sight of hilarity.  It's times like these that we truly appreciate our husbands.  This is the first year I didn't have his help for 3 of the 4 shows.  He's usually there for set up and tear down.  Time to regroup and decide which shows to do next year.

PriMEtive photo shoot

Took advantage of the sunny day to get the product photo shoot done for the Benton show website.  They hope to profile each of the vendors so that people can map out what booths they want to visit before the day of the show.  It's only one day this year :-(.  As a crafter I like having a day to chill out between tear down and set-up days.
